The Discovery Crawler Engine (DCE) forms the core of our Distributed Discovery architecture. By seamlessly interfacing with the IPAM/remote appliance or VM instance, it orchestrates the entire process. Through regular REST API queries, DCE remains updated with configuration directives from the IPAM master. Validity checks completed, it strategically pinpoints eligible routers or switches, kickstarting the discovery journey and ensuring systematic archival of configurations within the database. This approach ensures a robust and efficient method for maintaining network visibility and enhancing overall management.
Leveraging SNMP, SSH, PING, NMAP, and other methods, DCE obtains router and switch configurations, determining seed routers and connected devices. When new seed routers are detected, IPAM generates configurations and assigns the next available remote appliance for discovery. DCE also identifies connected leaf routers or switches, relaying details to IPAM to designate remote agents. The engine supports multi-vendor hardware detection, with permissions managed through TCPWave's Identity Administration module.
