As the calendar flipped to 2023, the cybersecurity landscape
did not merely evolve, it shifted tectonically. According to the
latest report from Gcore, a leading cybersecurity firm, the first
half of 2023 saw an alarming increase in the volume and
sophistication of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. A
DDoS attack, in essence, is a cyber onslaught that seeks to make a
network, service, or system unavailable by overwhelming it with a
flood of internet traffic. The data from Gcore paints a picture of a
rapidly escalating problem: the maximum attack power surged from 600
to 800 Gbps, UDP flood attacks dominated the field, accounting for
52% of all attacks, and the most frequently targeted sectors were
gaming, telecom, and financial services.
